Spring is the season of change and renewal and what better way to start over than moving house?
Here are a few tips to help you make the moving process smooth.
1. Book early and move early in the season.
Peak moving season starts around May, so ideally, you want to schedule your moving date in the early spring. House removals companies usually have better availability at that time, so you’ll have better chances of finding a free slot on your preferred date.
2. Rain is always a possibility in the spring.
Waterproof valuable belongings like electronics and books before putting them in boxes. Use bubble wrap and good-quality tape to ensure water doesn’t trickle in if you happen to move on a day when it’s pouring.
3. Do a spring clean before moving.
Decluttering is a smart move that will save you time and money because the fewer boxes you have, the lower the removal cost. And if you resell some of your unused belongings, you may even end up with some extra cash in your pocket.
4. Allergies flare up during the spring.
You may want to minimise the amount of time boxes sit in your home before being collected by the house removals company. Otherwise, they will collect dust and make things worse for allergy sufferers in the family. The best way to get around is by planning in advance and creating a packing calendar.
5. Give yourself some time to relax.
Planning a move and packing can be stressful, and spring fatigue causes low energy in many people. Don’t take on more than you can handle. Instead, get everyone in the family involved and make it fun. And if you’re moving to North London areas like Hampstead or Golders Green, you can always soak up the sunshine at the local parks.
From 12th April, it will be possible to meet with people from other households outdoors, so there’ll be many chances to socialise in the city’s parks.
